I collaborated with a very talented photographer, Anai, to work on two editorial stories during her short visit to Goa. After back and forth emails of discussing concepts, sharing opinions and planning aspects of the shoot, we were very much prepared with the vision of what we wished to portray right from the first click. We took off on an early morning road trip to Utorda beach in the south with hangers of blazers and a backpack filled with petite swimsuits. I met Anai for the first time on the day of the shoot itself and we instantly connected on every level, from our aesthetic to our work ethic. We reached the beach at around 7:00 am and instantly began shooting, outfit change after change, refusing to feel tired or to acknowledge how hot the sun had become. When the last jump of the last shot was underway by 11:00am, we literally sunk into our chairs completely exhausted and exceedingly happy with what we had.
Anai came up with the concept of using swim caps for the shoot and I couldn’t be happier to try something different and push my boundaries as a stylist and model. I decided to use a strong color palette with clean silhouettes and unusual pairings. I picked a cropped shirt with high waist bikini bottoms and a blazer tied over the bust in a bow following a strict color limitation to black, white, grey, mint green and orange. I sourced some of the key pieces from my designer friend Tia whose label I came across when I worked with her for a modelling assignment and instantly fell in love with her garments. Funnily my regular swimming goggles got the spotlight as the only accessory used in this spread and I think they played their part rather well.
