At the crack of dawn, quite literally, my taxi waited for me to pile in with steamed clothes on hangers and two bags in tow for a quiet ride to Arambol. It was still completely dark when I reached my destination and began to plan out the day of multiple shoots with Rema. We began our journey for the day along the expertly planned line of shoot locations which Rema had scouted the day before. In the four hours that we shot this story, there was a tremendous amount of walking, trekking, quickly changing outfits at unfamiliar places and jumping involved, while wiping off the sweat from my face. All this while sneaking glances at the beauty of Arambol since it was only my second time at this beach. The place was magical with a warm water lagoon, nature trails into a mountain which lead to fresh water streams, the most deadly yet magnificent rock formations, and of course, the calm, endless waves.

This story we were shooting was about a strong and compelling gypsy girl. A girl who was powerful enough to cross an entire ocean and climb a mountain top with mannerisms as delicate as the morning sun. A girl who could do anything she set her mind to and loved to prove wrong those who assumed she couldn’t. She was a child of nature, complacent in the womb of the ocean, comforted under a canopy of wild wilderness and happy as a child at the gush of the wind.

In order to bring out the character, I styled the garments with a sense of duality wherein delicate pieces were paired with stronger materials and structures. Oxidised jewellery thrifted from my travel to Jaipur and statement pieces from a wonderful new jewellery label, Parvati Villa, helped complete the looks, while the beauty look was simple, featuring the usual lip and a defined green winged liner. After hours of shooting frames, perfectly curated by Rema and skipping from one location to the other in the hot sun, we arrived at our last change. However, we were still not done for the day as we went on to shoot another set of projects which you may view here and here. As the cab got me back home with sore feet and a resilient mind, it seemed like the longest day and also one of the most productive ones.

  1. Hi,
You have really outdone yourself in this shoot! You seem to be totally chanelling the divine feminine in this one…
I love your fierce work ethic which is reflected in your blog as a whole. How early you wake and teh effort that is evident.. How you don’t skimp on the details.. would love for you to also give a little bit of extra info on the places where you’re shooting cos you seem to know all the areas without the crowded (or may you just beat them with your dawn scheduling). So may be you could do a Goa itinerary of the calm secluded places….
    Keep going!!!

    1. Hi Arathi! Thank you for taking out your precious time to write this. I truly appreciate it! I have actually done a couple of travel posts from Goa. Do let me know if you like them: http://fuss.co.in/category/fuss-travels/ I have a few more scheduled too and hopefully I’ll start working on travel more regularly. Yes, we do shoot very early in the morning usually, and I location scout quite a bit to find peaceful places. Also thankfully Goa is not very crowded off-season. Have a wonderful day and do keep in touch. 🙂

    1. Hi Jamie! No he doesn’t… 🙂 He just helped out with coding the website I designed. Thank you so much!!
