They were dyed blue.
Multiple hands endlessly dipped
Precisely placed
And repeated.
They created
Devoid of imagination.
Machines set to make.
Practise made them faster,
Skills fed, arms toiled.
Within dimly lit interiors
A territory of solemnity.
Carelessly spread in the sun
Were the fruits of their labour.

  1. This brings back such cute memories for me! I’ve done this once in an art class, where someone came in to teach us how to do it – I was super young and still in cool but was fascinated! What an amazing experience

    1. Hi Shloka, yes it is. And it just makes one realise the skill set these men possess, which is so inspiring!

  2. I recently went for this exhibition at the V&A here in London called the Fabrics of India and they had a whole section and video series on block printing. totally mesmerised by the intricacy of work that’s possible.

    1. Oh wow, that must have been so fascinating. It is great that more people are talking about, recognising and embracing Indian craft. It is so rich.
