Cold War

Another monsoon post for you guys! Even though I have been posting monsoon looks, I absolutely hate this weather and all I want to do is sit at home in my shorts and tee and not have to dress up or leave my comfy blanket. However, I was asked to wear my favourite monsoon outfit at a Bata event and I did so, slightly grudgingly. The event turned out to be lots of fun, I met a few fellow bloggers and some lovely people. This is what I chose to wear to the event:

1. A bright colored top to keep the monsoon blues (or should I say greys) away.
2. A comfy floral skirt. I can’t be bothered with anything full – length in this season. So anything short is the way to go to stay away from the muck and ickiness.
3. I pinned my hair to the side. Luckily I do not suffer from bad hair days in the monsoon, so good for me! :)
4. A few accessories to complete the look.
5. Pretty Bata flats in a beautiful green color compliment my  outfit perfectly!

Hope you like the looks. A huge thank you to the super talented Parisienne stylists at Jean Claude Biguine for the hair and makeup.  ^_^

Let’s Run Wild

10 things you should know to have a successful shopping spree:

1. Know what you want but be open to what the market might offer you. Sometimes being too rigid about what you envision and not being able to find it can make you irritable and spoil your shopping day.

2. Know your size and measurements. Especially when street shopping. Slowly you will gain the expertise of simply looking at a garment and knowing in your head exactly how its going to fit. Know your body and understand fabrics and fits.

3. Observe and rectify. With time and keen observation you will understand the kind of cuts and fits which are flattering on you so you don’t have to waste too much time in the trial room or pick confidently when a trial room isn’t available.

4. Having said that, don’t feel lazy to try out a lot of different pieces. Even if some are out of your comfort zone. Trying them out isn’t hurting anybody and will help you understand your body type better.

5. Keep yourself hydrated. Smoothies, fruit juice, good old H2O. Whatever works for you.

6. Shop light. Don’t already carry a heavy bag filled with things on your shopping spree. Throw on a sling bag so your hands can be free for all the rummaging through piles and picking from hangers.

7. Have a budget. We don’t want to feel guilty at the end of the day. Always have a budget and never exceed it. Its alright if you have to let a few amazing pieces go. They will come back and if not will be available online easily at a time when you do have saved up enough bucks. (And that will feel way more rewarding than the guilt of over spending)

8. Always take a break for a small healthy snack. Nothing too heavy as you don’t want to end up feeling sleepy and cutting the trip short. But starvation can make one impatient.

9. If you like something and fits your budget, fits your body and goes with your style Pick. It. Up. There is no need for second opinion, self doubting or confusion. YOU like it. YOU will be the one wearing it. BUY. IT.

10. Smile and try to enjoy the experience. Maybe you will come across those great shopping finds or you won’t, do make sure you have a great day. :)

White Dress – sheinside.com (SHOP HERE)
Fringe Necklace – No Strings Attached (Shop here)
Coral Bag – Cupidity from kiosha.com
Gold Heels – Pink Paisley, Hill Road, Bandra

There is something about a beautiful white dress which makes me instantly reach out to it. I wanted to wear this number before the rains played havoc and forced me to forget all my pretty white outfits. A very well tailored dress, the asymmetrical hemline came as a pleasant surprise (since it did not look that way on the website) and the fit is just perfect on me. I wore it with this unique fringe necklace from No Strings Attached and a few hints of coral.

A Commotion

Of all things that inspire me when it comes to fashion, be it my favorite style icons, magazines and some extremely talented bloggers, its the street which I find most interesting and inspiring. And I am not talking about the seldom-visible-swarm-of-stylish-teenagers or the half-drunk-almost-similarly-dressed-young-people pouring out of night clubs. Of course, they provide some great lessons in what-to-wear and what-not-to-even-consider-for-a-second, if you observe keenly,  but I am talking about those who are not even attempting to look stylish or fashionable or put – together and have no idea about what trends are. I am talking about that rare group of Rajasthani refugees you might come across in the locals with dupattas hanging from their heads to the edge of their floor – grazing lehengas, with blouses in mirror work cut so low at the back, it would give all the backless queens from Hollywood a run for their money and footwear in leather, the sort you might have never seen before. That random rag picker who wore a mint green striped maxi with stains all over the hem with an over sized woolen sweater which was too distressed and a shawl which didn’t go with any of it and yet went to all of it and made me wish I was a street photographer always ready with my camera to be able to capture that vision. Those old grannies who gang up for their evening chit – chat, still keen on tying their hair in a perfect bun, doing their face up with things which come out of a precious little metallic or wooden vintage box and who take pride in having their saris look crisp, impeccably pleated and neat. Inspiration indeed is everywhere. But for me, it begins on the street.

Black Dress – zlz.com (SHOP HERE)
Earrings – Old
Bag – Splash
Platform Heels – Tibetan Plaza, Bangalore
The summer heat would just not allow me to wear this gorgeous dress. At the first glimpse of rain, I pulled out this beauty to give it it’s day in the sun.  (rather lack of sun) I love the stunning Balmain inspired detailing in velvet on the bodice and the fabric is rich and luxurious. Super happy with this find! I let the dress do all the talking by keeping the accessories to a minimum and pulling my hair into a casual side ponytail. I am having lots of fun playing with makeup these days. Lots of experiments yet to be shared. Excited! :)

Mysterons

I feel one can never know enough when it comes to fashion. Its obvious that the content supplied today on the internet and on print is excessive enough to confuse a layman. Topics like whose wearing what, whose designing for whom, which business got taken over by the other, the trends, the models, the photographers… at times its simply too much to consume. Instead of getting overwhelmed by the mostly – unpronounceable – names and running a crazy reading marathon with every fashion magazine, website and blog; I stick to a few favorites and follow and read as much as I can sanely manage.  Thought of sharing five of my favorite online websites to keep in touch with all the action.

1. Style (Its the online fashion bible according to me)
2. Models (Very unique and well written articles and photographs)
3. jakandjil (Best street photography inspiration of all time)
4. teenvogue (The content is always exciting and obviously ‘young’)
5. dropdeadgorgeousdaily (They have a fab facebook page too!)

Gold Spikey Bracelet – No Strings Attached (Shop here)
Black Spikey Cuff | Feather Necklace | Black Wedges – Gifted
Bag – Lavie
Sunglasses – Thrift

Animal heads as prints have been a fascination for a while. (Most people who know me, know of my obsession with wolfies on tees) I had to have this beautiful cat print maxi dress as soon as I saw it. The dress is a style statement in itself and doesn’t need much. I accessorized it with some metallic and black accessories to create a look I absolutely love. A simple low pony tail with a slight bouffant makes for a chic hairdo in the summer. Thank God it finally rained! Some monsoon fashion will be up of FUSS soon!
